Katie at TNK!

Last weekend was Chicago’s annual Tomorrow Never Knows festival. To be quite honest, it’s not one I typically frequent but I couldn’t keep away from pop punk and a local rap showcase this year. Read my reviews for PUP and ProbCause‘s TNK shows on Chicagoist!

Alk3’s DG’s New LP

See how skilled I am at abbreviating? ^^ Thank you. It’s tough being so talented sometimes.

Seriously though, the drummer from Alkaline Trio (are you tired of me writing about them yet??) just put out his debut solo album this week and I wrote a few words about it for Chicagoist.

Wrapping Up 2014

Two days into 2015 and I’m back from a lengthy but much needed holiday vacation. I thought I’d take this time to highlight my last little bits of writing from 2014. Years down the line, it’s still a nice treat to see my byline every time (and to be reminded that somebody out there trusts me enough to put my thoughts out into the world).

I had the chance to talk to Andrew W.K. about his New Year’s Eve show in Chicago for Choose Chicago but was sadly unable to make it. Still willing to bet it was a party, party, party.

I did have the opportunity to catch beloved emo/math rockers American Football’s first Chicago show following their reunion. Here’s my review.

And, finally, the Chicagoist crew put together some of our favorite local musical moments and releases from the past year. I did not to try to focus so heavily on hip hop, it was just a great year in that department I suppose!

Happy Birthday, Bloodshot!

Bloodshot Records founders Nan Warshaw, Rob Miller and BS artist Robbie Fulks helped me put together an oral history of the label’s early days in honor of its 20th anniversary. I’m happy to say I think it turned out quite nicely.
